Official end of IBL

Date: Thu, 12 Dec 1996 19:04:17

IBL aficionados,

Will and I regret to announce the official end of the Internet Bolo League.

We discussed it and concur that it is better to stop it now, rather than
let it wither and die later. The reasons have all been pointed out before.
Basically there just isn't enough interest to sustain the league and
justify the organizers' time and effort. There will be no more rankings,
ratings, scripts for reporting games, etc. It should be noted that MHz
offered to help co-organize, and several people emailed me expressing
support. Thanks guys, but it is unfortunately not enough. All good things
must end.

We've come a long way. Wintermute started the first IBL in the summer of
'95, when we used to have 10 or more divisions all the time. Under my
stewardship, with the help of first FireIce and then Will aka Attack Salad,
we kept it going for five seasons in spite of Bolo's dwindling popularity.
This is by far the longest Bolo tournament league ever, and I want to thank
everybody who participated and helped.

I know that IBL served in part as a rallying cry for keeping Bolo alive.
Please don't interpret the end of IBL as the death of Bolo. Those of us
who enjoy the game, including myself, can and will continue to play it. We
will probably keep the Pseudo Bolofest League (PBL) going next year, with
big-ass 6 or more low-lag player games, as we have done nearly every week
this season. I will also continue to support the FAQ and
http://www.lgm.com/~jyl/IBL/ web site.

It is my hope that if/when Bolo is commercialized or otherwise pushed
forward, as I am confident it will be, that a new era of Bolo will begin.
Perhaps then IBL can start over anew, as a phoenix rises from its own
ashes.

Bolo is forever! Long live Bolo!

Jolo and Will
