IBL Week 1 News

The first week of IBL got off to a hectic start with 4 newbies (ultraman,
eldoce, Krempic, and tzunami), who all got a rude awakening.  Hang in there
guys, and welcome to the show.  We could've had 2 divisions on Sunday
night, but 3 different people suffered from IRC cluelessness or showed up
late.  The games were good though.  Pins, who biked over to play in our
lab, said "best games I've had in IBL ever!"  Of course after being locked
up at home for a week, he was just happy to be networking at faster than
14.4 kbaud.

Afterwards we kicked off a pseudo bolofest league (PBL) which worked OK
even with only 4 Duke players (me, Max, Wmute, Pins) and 5 others from
elsewhere.  We played 4x4s for over 2 hours with vets ranging from vert
(who allied with us when Wmute had to leave) to Bitch, drad, bob, and HB
(or *some* Bitch from Swat who snuck into the game and shot my man 3x in a
row).  The games were pretty fun and not too laggy.  Team Duke went fromm
6-0 last week to 0-6 this time, with poor vert stuck as our ally for much
of it.  There was a sweet tix tox pillbox at the end to wrap it up: in the
last minute or so, drad got the pill after losing his man, and unable to
plant it, pulled off a beautiful escape into the outer ring's trees while
everybody hunted him desperately.

The 1-division turnout on Sunday is definitely not worth our time as
organizers, so unless things change this coming Sunday, we will cancel
Sunday IBL in favor of PBL, which has in the last 2 weeks drawn far more
people than any recent IBL and been more fun for me at least.  The hard
part is keeping the poor Euro's involved, since most PBLers seem to prefer
playing late, such as Sunday at 8 pm EDT.  Anyway, we'll keep IBL at 6 pm
this Sunday, and if the attendance is still low, we'll cancel Sunday IBL
after that.  Monday IBL will still go on regardless.

Div 1a1:  WildDuck Cliffa Pins ultraman.  (ultraman went 0-3.)

        Team A was favored by 557 points. By winning, each gained 4 points.
Game 3: WildDuck & ultraman < Cliffa & Pins.
        Team A was an underdog by 271 points. By losing, each lost 18 points.

Div 1b1:  Samhain Bitch Nutz LordX.  (LordX went 0-3.)

Game 1: Samhain & Bitch > Nutz & LordX.
        Team A was favored by 686 points. By winning, each gained 1 points.
Game 2: Samhain & Nutz > Bitch & LordX.
        Team A was favored by 200 points. By winning, each gained 25 points.
Game 3: Samhain & LordX < Bitch & Nutz.
        Team A was favored by 0 points. By losing, each lost 52 points.
