IBL Week 4: Jolo actually plays?!?

IBL folks,
Sunday continues to be a good night as we fielded 3 full divisions. There
was a scary moment when both div 1 and 2 looked to be hosed due to
unexpected Finnish lag but we did a little reshuffling and grabbed some
subs and all was well. Fish continues his IBL woes, going 0-3 against a
motley crew of Div 1ers. Drad the Bolo Terminator is unstoppable as he
goes 3-0 yet again, probabably for the last time in div 2. Yes, Jolo even
played. I damn nearly went 3-0 in div 3 too, having to settle for 2-1
after somehow losing after stealing 6 pbs and successfully spiking out half
the map in Dream Soda V.
Monday games were again nearly ruined by lag. After 1 player stormed out
in anger and 2 others were kicked by me (sorry guys, you know who you are),
we reshuffled and combined 2 divisions into 1. After that all went well.
When the dust settled, Fish posted the greatest loss after his shocking
upset losses (205 points, ouch). Nutz and Drad ascend to the #4 and #6
ranks after their respective 5-1 and 4-2 performances. Grimm (welcome to
IBL) posted a respectable 181 point gain in his first outing. Will finally
halts his downward spiral, at the expense of the new players -- hang on in
there guys. Magrathea wins the Timex Award for taking a licking and
keeping on ticking! The ratings list is pared by more than a half as
inactive players are taken out by the script. (PBL news follows at the

Afterward Sunday IBL, we PBLed for a few more hours even though Jolo was
the only Duke player. We were joined by the likes of Hoov, Santa, and the
usual gang. After a laggy start, we managed several 4x4s and 4x5s on DC
and an exhausting River Kwai marked by a total lack of strategy at first
since nobody else had played it (where's Wmute and Samhain when you need
them?). Memorable moment: when one of the Brits was captured in the
prison, Santa led a 3-man rescue sortie that not only killed the prison
guard (me) and freed their comrades but blew out the prison-gate base. The
Japanese almost won, at one point controlling both sides of the bridge and
most of the pills, but the Brits were just too resourceful and bridge was
finally blown.
The following was one crazy game, started out 4x5, a bad start led to the
4-man team being badly shafted on the base run, so as a member of the 5-man
team I cruised around the map without playing to keep it fair, then I
poured it on and helped take 2 bases and 2 pills, then just for kicks I
took 1 of those pills and defected in midgame. The game then went on for
another half hour, going around and around Slug 4 (that slugmo sure can
make good maps) with a heated pillwar in the center Hoov: "do NOT lose the
center!" "I SAID do not lose the center!" "The center dammit now now now!"
We lost. :)

The following was one of 4 or so TTPB games we played, of which Fish won 2,
Bob won 1, and there was a tie again for the 4th. Lots of exciting action
in the rings amidst the trees. At one point, Fish was carrying the pill
without a man and low on armor as time almost expired, and sneaks right by
3 pursuers in the trees who either didn't have bullets, didn't see him, or
didn't realize he was carrying the pill.
