How to get on #IBL without lag
If you are still using irc-2.mit.edu as your IRC server, for chrissakes
switch servers! That server seems alternately split or lagged to hell.
For IBL (and indeed most IRC) purposes, use the following servers:
- irc.catt.ncsu.edu
- irc2.ais.net
- irc.winternet.com (identd required, Mac users use new Ircle to defeat it,
ircII users get your lazy sysadm to install pidentd)
- irc.cerf.net (used to rox, now kinda overloaded)
- irc.law.emory.edu
When you get on #ibl, immediately ping me (/ctcp Jolo PING). If it takes
>10 seconds, you're too lagged. Switch servers or, when all fails, /dcc
chat Jolo, then /msg =Jolo blah blah (note equals sign). DCC chatting
provides a lag- and split-free private connection, but don't everybody do
it at once 'cuz it's a pain for me to chat back. Eventually we'll have
some kinda bot or s/t to setup a DCC chat room -- any volunteers?
(Eggdrop will do it, I just haven't had time to set it up yet.)
Servers to avoid at all costs:
- irc.eskimo.com
- irc.colorado.edu
- irc-2.mit.edu
- irc.cris.com (most of the time)
