IBL Chat Bot
Most of you noticed last Monday the bot chromium, which provided us with a
chat room, which is a multi-user DCC (direct client connection) facility
that lets us talk without any lag or splits. In the future, all IBL chat
will be done this way to keep Will and me sane, so *please* learn how to do
it. It's quite easy!
When you join #ibl, you should find chromium sitting there. Do this:
1. /msg chromium Hello
This introduces you to the bot. Ignore all the crap about a password.
2. /dcc chat chromium
This requests a DCC chat session with the bot. Make take a while if you
are lagged, but there will be no lag after the connection is made.
3. /msg =chromium blah blah whatever
This is how you talk back in the chat room.
4. /part #ibl
Once you're in the chat room, there's no point in staying in the channel.
That's it. Don't freak -- there's at most only 2 commands you've never
heard of before (#2 and #3) and they will be in the topic. Once you enter
the chat room, everything that anybody says is sent to everybody else via
DCC. To talk, you /msg =chromium (notice the equals sign). There are a
few commands that may be helpful, such as .who (shows who else is there)
and .help.
Shortcuts: On ircII you can just hit "tab" to get the last person who
/msg'd you, thus saving yourself from typing /msg =chromium over and over.
On Ircle the DCC chat is a separate window, just bring that to the front
and type messages as usual.
