Perhaps I have never made this clear before, so at the risk of sounding condescending... You absolutely must be willing to make IBL your TOP PRIORITY for the duration of 3 games. When you show up for IBL, you are personally guaranteeing 3 games without interruptions. If you cannot make such a guarantee, please just don't play that night. This is not just a pickup game where if you have to go, nobody really cares. I know that some of you have other commitments such as teaching students or manning a help desk or friends who call every 30 minutes, but if you cannot suspend those commitments for 2 hours on an IBL night, then DON'T PLAY THAT NIGHT.
In addition, effective immediately, if there are insufficient players to form complete divisions, we will drop those who showed up last rather than those with the lowest ranks. This seems less likely to foster the perception that IBL is for top players only, and hopefully will encourage everybody to show up early. The line forms at 7:30 pm eastern time, no earlier, so don't show up 4 hours before to reserve a spot.
This has been a week marked by walkouts that messed up 2 out of 4 divisions (again). The parties responsible have been castrated, enough said. For the games that *were* played, point changes were all small because of the disparity in matchups, the lack of upsets, and the rating system settling down into a reasonable approximation of skill (i.e. your co-organizers finally finding their niche way down at the bottom). Bob joined IBL and promptly went 3-0 on Sunday. In the first application of the weedout-by-tardiness rule, bleak showed up late on Monday and was demoted into div 7b2. Other newcomers in that division: Hellrazer (yes, that HR) who in spite of his rustiness held on to most of his points, and Black Flag aka Flag from UNC.
Santa joins the list of bolo gods on probation for his walkout, which again simply means if he fux up again he's out. Or worse. :) In the coming days, Will and I will figure out some way to properly deal with walkouts/noshows. Your constructive suggestions are always welcome.
