Jolo's Bolo Starter Pack

Bolo is an Internet tank battle/strategy game for the Macintosh. This page lets you download Jolo's Bolo Starter Pack, which is the only modern, comprehensive package that includes everything you need to play Internet Bolo. The contents are:

a representative collection of maps (smaller = faster game):
1. Baringi - small 2x2 tournament map that encourages pill wars. Twin safe corner bases and trick-take pills are like a cross between "Filled Chew Toy" and "Easter Island III".
2. Chew Toy 96 - small circle that is extremely fast-paced, but unlike CT2 or CT3 this is not as amenable to the base rape style that is very much in vogue now.
3. DH-Oil Rig - small 4 quads, variant of classic Oil Rig which was the 1st small 4-fold symmetric map, fast and exciting for 1x1 or 2x2.
4. Dream Soda V - medium oval, great for 2x2 or 3x3, best if you split the map east/west up front, then you get nice pillwars in the N & S ctr since you can't go through the big rubble field in the middle.
5. Easter Island III - small rectangle, more spread out than CT's but still very fast paced for 1x1 or 2x2.
6. Flame War - small terrain map, a Black Lightning classic with lots of interesting possibilities, 2x2 or more.
7. Gothic Industrial - small rectangle, similar to Easter Island 3.
8. Mutatis Mutandis - large and well designed with lots of texture, great for 3x3's or more.
9. Skew Toy 2 - small circle but subtly asymmetric, fast but not boring.
10. Slugfest IV - small rectangle, lots of little quads, good for 2x2.
11. TixToxPillBox - specialty "rule" map, played in tournament mode with 10 min time limit, objective is to hold on to the single pillbox when time expires. Endless jousts and sneaky strategies, the more players the merrier, classic way to wrap up a huge Bolofest.
12. Tralfaz - small terrain map with lots of fun nooks and crannies, a sluggo adventure classic for 2x2 or more.
13. Wash DC map - large, based on the layout of the eponymous city, classic pillwars, multiple shifting fronts, room for lots of strategy and hot action for 3x3 or more people.

Why the 2 versions? Mac users can directly download the Stuffit (.sit) version, which is a compressed Mac binary file. If you are currently on another platform such as UNIX or PC, then for compatibility reasons you must first download the much larger Binhex (.hqx) version which is a text file, then transfer that to a Mac later. Both versions yield the same resulting files when decoded using Stuffit Expander on your Mac.
