ROWS OF MONOTYPE display type in the case. Giampa used a system that was unusual in the trade. He distributed his types into rows in the cases. The types were lined up for quickest assembly into a type stick. No thought was required to determine if the character was business end up.

In these days Giampa ran a 100 per cent 'non distribution' Lanston Monotype System. That is why the type cases are full and all characters are new. Used type went the way of the 'Hell Box'.

THE MONOTYPE SYSTEM GAVE THE COMPOSING ROOM an endless supply of types. Less type cases wer required because the source could be stored in very compact boxes and cast at will.

Type was stored as "futures".
