Giampa enjoyed the ideograms of the Chinese characters. The setting of the Chinese type was very different. Spacing was a non issue and our western typesetting sticks would be useless.
Giampa spent some time in his youth poking around Chinese prints shops, mainly newspapers. The Chinese Times was kitty corner to his flat in Shanghai Alley. They had a press worth seeing. A web fed, duplex, flatbed cylinder newspaper press. 'Now that's a mouthful.'
Once Giampa toured an academic Chinese typesetting department. The typesetters roller skated from character to character. Ever seen that before?
