DUPLEX KEYBOARD TAP ONCE, SET TWICE

¶ MONOTYPE DUPLEX KEYBOARDS differs from the Style D Keyboard. It has mounted, side by side, two separate counting and perforating mechanisms which may be operated simultaneously or separately at the will of the operator by means of the two green keys in the lower centre of the keybanks, or turning the lock switch on the front of the piston-block base.

¶ THE LANSTON MONOTYPE Duplex Keyboard enabled the Monotype keyboard operator to set text in two different point sizes simultaneously. For instance, a hard covered and a paper backed edition of a book, or two identical settings for simultaneous editions to be printed in two different countries.

In addition a text intended two colours could be set, on spool for one casting operation, and one for the other. This way type did not have be manually separated.
