MASTER PRINTER
I LANSTON TYPE COMPANY I GERALD GIAMPA I ¶ GERALD GIAMPA, master printer, born to print, is a legendary figure. He decided he would be a printer and publisher when he was four years old. His passion for the typographical arts is best shown in his works with printers' fleurons. His life was spent working in the printing industry. Giampa has been in the commercial printing, publishing and typefounding industries since 1964. Today he is in his early fifties and is the owner of the Lanston Type Library. He is writing about the history and mechanics of the industry. He also continues his work as the owner of the Lanston Type Library. Shown here is his old shop Cobblestone Press, 323 in Cambie Street, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He would have been about thirty years old in this photo. |
