DIGITAL GOUDY FONTS
I LANSTON TYPE COMPANY I FREDERIC GOUDY I GOUDY TYPE FACES ¶ FREDERIC GOUDY, born March 8, 1865 in Bloomington, Illinois. For 29 years Goudy type directed the (American) Lanston Monotype Machine Company. The Lanston Type Company is 'closest to source' for original Goudy fonts. These digital typeface revivals are taken from the original brass patterns. Californian, yet to be complete, are digitized from proofs made from original lead patterns cut by Goudy's at Deepdene. These patterns are the only known complete patterns in existence, the others were destroyed by the fire. The others are digitized from proofs taken from patterns produced under the direction of Goudy in the Lanston Punch cutting Department. There are other foundry offering versions of some of these faces. They are of dubious merit, offering at best, little advantage other than price. That said, most are an insult and represent substantial deviations. Beware of imitators, buyer beware is certainly applicable. Lanston is closest-to-source for Goudy Type Faces. Legitimate traditional sources for type faces are imperative in quality productions. That and other considerations. Type Faces available are listed on the right hand column. |
