¶ MR. R. D. HANDLING was the reason that Giampa got interested in book printing.
Giampa was one of those kids that drew pictures all day long but then, for some reason, became fascinated by his grandfather who had a ferocious apetite for books.
Giampa figured the characters on the page was some kind of cryptic code. He remembers asking his brother Frank Giampa what his grandfather was doing with all these squiggly things on paper? 'They are tiny pictures', Frank explained.
So Giampa decided to take a more direct approach and ask his grandfather.
'I'm travelling through India at the moment. Is there something I can do for you?'
From then on Giampa was determined to gain his grandfather's attention.
Giampa's grandfather was the former chief accountant for the main office of the Royal Bank in Vancouver, British Columbia. He looked after Crestlynn Press book keeping in the early beginnings of Giampa's career.
