THE BRASS LETTER with the 'S' in relief is a pantograph pattern that is used when cutting a punch on a Benton Pantograph. The paper on the right is IK data output to paper showing the same character in exactly the same size. This makes it possible to guarantee the outline is identical.

There is a misconception that Lanston only uses Ikarus software in its font production. Lanston uses Ikarus for outlining historical fonts, Fontographer and FontLab for many other reasons including the final generation of different formats.

LANSTON TYPE COMPANY is the only digital font company ever to have manufactured digital fonts using this process.

This is a rather direct technology transfer. We used the punch cutting cards for fit. You may say the digitizing tablet was somewhat like a modern day pantograph.
