¶ TEMPORARILY LANSTON and my new family moved to Gunning Cove near Shelburne, Nova Scotia, Canada in 2001.

People in Shelburne were the kindest I have ever met, particularly the people of Gunning Cove. They offered unimaginable kindness during extreme hardship.

This was the first time I was not kicked when I was down.

The fisherman and kids gave us mackerel and scallops, the neighbours apples and vegetables. I felt at home in Gunning Cove, it was not the house but the acres of oak trees, the daily visits from the porcupines and the deer.

We missed the Prince Edward Island mosquitoes.
