NATURE'S CONTRAPTIONS

ORNAMENTAL DEVICES

I LANSTON TYPE COMPANY I GERALD GIAMPA I

GERALD GIAMPA enjoys the work of other fellow fleuron artists. Spiders weaving their work-a-day tools into contraptions of architectural beauty.

Something important got misplaced in the Bauhaus Typography. Ornamentation became postured as an unnecessary evil, serifs were suddenly surplus. Texture became viewed as a benign infection.

Bauhaus made 'sterility' a spiritual aspiration. The human hand no longer had relevance to creation. The human hand became a fault, not a feature.

However the Bauhaus probably helped sell a lot of white sliced bread, creamed cheese and skimmed milk?

But nature continues shamelessly.
