¶ THE UPPER CASE 'S' PATTERN for ITC Stone® Serif was cut from a sheet of brass, then attached to a square backing of even thicker brass making a finished pattern.
Patterns are followed by the stylus of the pantograph which controls the cutter and makes a relief character in a much smaller bar of steel forming a punch.
The punch is subsequently stuck into a small block of bronze which gets machined by many different polishers, grinders and cutters forming it into a composition matrix.
