BLACKBERRY WINE

I LANSTON TYPE COMPANY I GERALD GIAMPA I

THIS WINE LABEL had crisp kiss impression. There was no show through on the back of the sheet. The inks were subtle and the burgundy was mixed to match the colour of the blackberry wine itself.

The proportions are of bookish ratios. The type face is 18 point Caslon Oldstyle. Giampa only possessed 10, 12, 18 and 24 point Caslon Oldstyle at the time of this printing. The tree was one of his favourite type-cuts.

Giampa was seventeen years old when he designed and printed these labels for his chess opponent and friend, Patrick Lohan. This man had five daughters. When the girls entered their teens Patrick suffered from a heart attack. Giampa is not at all surprised.
