GALLEY OF GRANJON FLEURONS

I LANSTON TYPE COMPANY I GERALD GIAMPA I

A GALLEY OF 18 POINT printers' fleurons shown as a work in progress.

Composition of printers' fleurons are called suites of fleurons.

There are multiple steps and repeated events including design by subtraction when developing a suite of fleurons.

The large blanks on the lower right hand corner are yet to be developed.

The bright holes in the design are 'form breaking' for the different colour runs.

Gerald Giampa used files and a gravure to cut portions of one character away to give the design more fluidity.

Giampa 'designed in the stick' and belongs to a particular class of typographical designers.

FLEURONS SEPARATED FOR COLOUR

THESE GRANJON FLEURONS are built up of lead printer's fleurons on a galley and tied by string. The shining sections are colours getting separated. There are both left handed fleurons, and right handed fleurons.
