TWELVE UNIT GRID
I LANSTON TYPE COMPANY I GERALD GIAMPA I
¶ THESE ARRANGEMENTS were confined to twelve by twelve units. These complied to illustrate directly the text that John Dreyfus had authored.
What distinguishes the two proofs is merely the negative space interchanged.
It was unusual for me to take pictures of work in progress. These photos were used by John Dreyfus, he was giving lectures on printers' fleurons.
I made serious artistic discoveries with these typographical ornaments.

ONE SIMPLE PRINTERS' FLEURON
WITH ENDLESS VARIATIONS
¶ THIS ILLUSTRATES A SIMPLE TRANSPOSITION between positive and negative. Working the next step would be colour consideration which gave these simplest of simple typographical ornaments a warm tonality.
