GIAMPA HAND-SETTING TYPE

I LANSTON TYPE COMPANY I GERALD GIAMPA I

GERALD GIAMPA is setting an uppercase character from a California job case.

The composing room was very well equipped with Hamilton dust proof cabinets, new type and all the additional tools throughout including a Hammond Glider saw, two Heidelberg Cylinders and one Heidelberg Platen. Pre-press included two Nolan proof presses and two Vandercook reproduction proof presses. The plant floor had two rows of skylight above giving natural light to the work at hand. The ceilings were twenty-five feet high.

A complete Monotype composition and casting department could supply Giampa's every need. The plant was a 'non-distribution system' meaning new type was cast for every new project. Lanston Type Companies matrix inventory combined with Northland's collection gave Giampa the resources of every typeface offered by the American Lanston Monotype Machine Company. The plant also had five Benton pantographs with ancillary cutter grinders and other grinders for preparing punch blanks. Plus there were a multitude of necessary matrix manufacturing machines for producing composition cellular matrices.

Added to the luxury and convenience was a fully equipped darkroom and a plate making department.

Giampa is particularly gifted when working with printers' fleurons.
