¶ SUMNER STONE plans the punch cutting of his typeface. He is shown here sitting in the punch cutting department of the Lanston Type Library.
Lanston was working with him on a project cutting punches for ITC Stone Serif making matrices for the American Lanston Monotype composition system.
This is the first time a type face was digitally designed on computers and made to fit hot metal. Book C was the chosen as the keyboard arrangement for Stone Serif.
Fitting type designs for hot metal matrices is work of a very high order. There was immense planning for this project.
