¶ INK IS ONE of the most important and often the most neglected areas of production. Ink will often make or break a print production. Ink on paper, you would think the concept is self explanatory, apparently not. Quality ink is the first consideration and how to 'doctor ink' is another. There are many unsettling results from not knowing your inks, hallowing, stippling or offsetting will ruin the job.
There is no such thing as cheap ink unless it produces the best results with the least amount of problems. The old expression applies. Penny wise, pound foolish.
Northland Letterpress was temporarily the interim dealer for Hostmann Steinberg Inks. At that time it was one of the few ink companies providing genuine letterpress inks.
Most fine printers were not colour oriented. Giampa's work was strongly typographically composed in harmony with colour, ornaments, texture and paper.
Giampa's ability to mix and match inks was superior to the Pantone Matching System. Colour is one of Giampa's strongest points.

¶ QUALITY LETTERPRESS INKS are not a luxury, they are a necessity. Doctoring inks is dangerous but with skill most useful.
