MADE IN GERMANY
I LANSTON TYPE COMPANY I GERALD GIAMPA I
¶ THE WORST JOB was washing up the press or the ink mixing slab. Well, second worst. These fire proof wash up cans came from Germany.
Giampa's work required many wash ups on a press. Giampa was always adjusting his inks back and forth for the right hue or tone.
His work was almost always multi-coloured so his rollers had to be very clean. He would wash put white ink on the rollers to see if any colours were going to bleed into the new colours as he ran. Then he would give it a final wash down.

BRASS WASH UP CANS, SAFETY
IN THE OLD DAYS WASH UP WAS AN EXPLOSIVE ISSUE
¶ WHEN I FIRST BEGAN PRINTING they washed up with a white gas, coal oil mixture. That was a dangerous combination.
