William Morris
¶ JENSON ROMAN is based on the Golden Types of William Morris. The type face was used to produce fine limited editions. Morris was famous for his Kelmscott Press Books. His influence although well documented seems to have escaped many in this age but others know how influential he was in the arts, stained glass, books, fabrics, furniture and architecture. In fact he was the spirit behind an entire period. The Lanston Monotype Machine Company and ATF (American Typefounders) released this face in the early nineteen hundreds.
Jenson, 58 does not have italic letterforms such a in the (a) or (e) therefor is not in the purest sense of the word, italic but rather an obliqued roman.
