¶ MONOTYPE POT of molten lead. A typical morning sight for the Monotype casterman. The plunger rests sideways, its' piston on the left end, not shown is the wood handle on the right.
The casting nozzle is towards you poking its head out from the molten lead.
This melting pot is ready for servicing. This is the fun stuff. The pump must get removed, cleaned and drilled. The nozzle then also gets removed from the pump and cleaned, drilled and dressed.
The pot drossed, the molten surface skimmed. Finally the nozzle and pump is re-assembled, the piston gets cleaned, buffed and re-installed. The pot is then wound upwards and seated.
Don't wear your mohair suit and keep the burn victim emergency number handy. Danger of burns was far less frequent or dangerous as on a Tomson Caster.
