DEBURRING A TYPE PUNCH: This is a photo of a type punch getting struck by hand. This striking operation is for taking off burs from the character before finishing the punch. After the cutting of the punch is finished it is hardened in the furnace.

Then the punch is struck with the automatic ram and machined with many different cutters and grinders into a composition matrix. There are many steps and inspections in the making of a matrix
