On Sunday, Div 1 reported good games. Shotty unfortunately went 0-3,
perhaps as a result of not adapting to his new role. In past weeks he
was often the top seed in div 2, so he was used to playing like a
leader, and continued doing so tonight with early aggressive spikes and
trying to take on both opposing players. That strategy was misplaced and
backfired. As an example of smart play, in game 2 Underdog and Silverado
played defensively, switching sides depending on who just lost their
lgm. Underdog tried to attack but failed, so instead he built a pill
line to match his enemy and just held the line long enough to get all
their pills.

Div 2 was a weird odd couple situation with 2 better players (Suicidjky
1733 and ace 1622) and 2 weaker players (ihauflad 1240 and Smokey 1225).
Smokey ended up losing 0-3, which is perhaps as it should be. This meant
unfortunately that Suicidjky lost 22 points overall largely due to
losing 47 points in game 3 while allied with Smokey. Basically he was
saddled with the weak player and probably should have just focused on
playing the best 1x2 game he could, hoping his ally would stall as much
as possible. Instead, Suicidjky kept loaning Smokey pills to shore up
the other front while trying to ward off the determined team play of ace
and ihauflad. The result was another painful loss.

Tonight's games provide great lessons. IBL is not just about being a
good player, instead it takes smart strategy and knowing what role
you're supposed to play in each match-up, and being able to adapt to
those new roles quickly. Sure, that's easy for me to say from the
sidelines with the benefit of hindsight, but knowing this before and
during a game is the difference between a merely good player and a great
one.

Millenium and sethos were not registered in time to join the regular 2x2
action, so instead they played a quick 1x1, and I do mean quick -
apparently it lasted under 5 minutes. Millenium starts out at 1750, just
below Min (based on some close 1x1 games they played recently), and
moves up 22 points. At this rate we'll have another top 10 player soon.

On Wednesday night, Underdog went 0-3 in Div 1 while Suicidjky went 3-0
in Div 2. Underdog's losses were particularly harsh, he gave up a
whopping 143 points, the harshest loss was game 1 where Silverado and
shotty managed to pull off the big upset. In Div 2, Suicidjky continued
to find his groove it seems.

For the week, Underdog fell hard after going 2-4 in Div 1 action and
dropping 138 points. Silverado was the big winner, going 4-2 in Div 1
games and gaining 118 points, closing the gap with Smeagol who also went
4-2 but gained less points since he was already ranked higher and
expected to do better. Suicidjky reversed a long losing streak, getting
the best game record of 5-1 in Div 2 play. This of course means that he
put himself right back into contention among the top tier of players,
but that's how it works. Basically you will move up and down as your
record warrants.
