Week 10 Recap
Well, the spring 2002 season is over. The final night on Wednesday was a
real mess, with Div 1 calling a tie in a game, and Div 2 bailing after
playing just a game (and unfortunately it was game 1 with seeds 1 and 2
vs. 3 and 4 which doesn't usually affect ratings much anyway due to the
lopsided ratings). There was a surprising upset in Div 3, where Blue
Thunder managed to upset DarkOmen in 1x1 in spite of being a 625 point
underdog! That is most likely an all-time IBL record.
The future of IBL will not be decided tonight. The organizers need to do
some soul searching to decide if it is worth the time and headaches to
continue this, an announcement will be made soon. No matter what happens
though, Min and Liz deserve our thanks for reviving the IBL and
shepherding it through 10 tumultuous weeks. Also, the 48 (!) of you
who played during this season all were part of the history making first
season of WinBolo IBL. In spite of the frequent controversy, I hope most
of you will agree that some really fun games were played which wouldn't
have happened otherwise. As long as that is true, maybe it was worth it.
