FINE PRESS BOOKS
I LANSTON TYPE COMPANY I GERALD GIAMPA I ¶ COBBLESTONE PRESS SOCIETY was formed for those interested in collecting Gerald Giampa's bookwork. Very few books Giampa printed fell into local bookshops. Giampa had an aversion to Vancouver rare book dealer Wil Hoffer, and the Alcuin Society. ¶ GERALD GIAMPA: 'The Vancouver book scene was somewhat uncivilized. So I fit right in. I remember an Albanian communist book store on Pender Street was fire bombed and McLeod's Books next door was severely maimed. They moved it up to Book Row and had a grand re-opening. And grand it was. The end of the night a free-for-all-fight broke out. I never saw anything like it. Uncivilized indeed, a good time was had by all except the losers, or about half the party, I was alright'. Most books were sold directly to Gerald Giampa's collectors, the press runs were very short often only one hundred and sometimes twenty-six. Recent searches on the web have found nothing of his work except those not for sale listed in the special collections of universities or libraries.
