¶ ROBERT NORTON, Type Director of Microsoft is sitting on the cast iron park bench in the garden outside of Giampa's Lanston Type Company's office. Robert was somewhat of a father figure to Giampa. This photo was taken on one of Robert's visits to Lanston Type Library. Giampa stayed with Robert in Seattle on several occasions. They shared an interest in typography and poetry. Robert surprised Giampa by loaning him a wonderful book of poetry by one of the most regarded typographers and book designers, Robert Bringhurst.
Robert was a collector of Giampa's typographical work. He would commission the occasional job. Norton framed and hung a series of Giampa's suites of fleurons on the hallways of Microsoft.
Robert encouraged Giampa to come out of semi-retirement. Robert's death deeply disturbed Giampa.
