I'd take a quick jump on pills >(say 4 or so) over your hidden mine phaze any day. I'd also rather have >those hidden mines placed in the areas you are going to travel, rather >then around my bases (since they make taking out spikes and neutrals >much more difficult). > The key to using mines in a hidden mine game is to create the illusion that there are more mines hidden than there actually are. If your opponent comes across a bunch of mines while approaching one of your bases, he has to think twice about sending his man in to spike, etc., without first checking for mines. A few key patches of mines here and there placed so that they do not also impede your own avenue of attack can cause your opponent to be overly cautious, possibly even mining himself into a corner. The important thing is to not spend too much time loading up on and laying mines when you could be doing something more constructive, but to lay just enough here and there to plant a seed of doubt in your opponent's mind. Successful application of this tactic usually evokes a response of "HEY!!! WHAT'S WITH ALL THE F***ING MINES!!!" sluggoboom
